Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to the extent that it may have a negative effect on health, leading to reduced life expectancy and increased health issues. In Western countries, people are considered obese when their body mass index (BMI), exceeds 30, and overweight in the range 25-30lbs. In Chinese medicine we look at this as a combination of the patterns: Stomach heat which contribute to the excessive hunger, dampness in the body expressed by the extra volume, and an accumulation of toxins.
